School of Nursing

The Saint Louis University School of Nursing is a premier educational and research institution that offers the full array of degree programs in nursing (BSN, MSN, PhD and DNP). The School of Nursing has consistently led in the development of cutting edge educational programs. Here are a few “firsts”:

  • Saint Louis University School of Nursing is the oldest School of Nursing in the St. Louis Metropolitan area.
  • It was the first school in the nation to offer an accelerated option program. This innovative option was established at Saint Louis University School of Nursing in 1971, and today there are more than 217 programs nationally.
  • Saint Louis University School of Nursing was the first nursing program in the state to offer a PhD in Nursing. Through the graduate programs at Saint Louis University, we have educated more nurse faculty than any University within the state.
  • In 2003, the School was the first to launch an on-line program to prepare nurses to assume leadership roles in dealing with the aftermath of a natural disaster or terrorist attack.
  • SLU’s School of Nursing is the only program in the metropolitan area to rank in the National Institute of Health, National Institute of Nursing Research, primarily because it is the only program in this area with nationally and internationally renowned faculty researchers. The School has renowned researchers in the areas of gastroenterology, gerontology and teenage pregnancy.

The School of Nursing’s greatest asset is the depth and accomplishment of its faculty. Dean Teri A. Murray has set several funding priorities to attract and retain accomplished faculty through the establishment of Endowed Chairs and Professorships and to secure the School of Nursing’s position nationally and internationally as a leading force in the education of advanced nursing practitioner, educators, and researchers.
