About the lecture:
The Saint Louis University School of Public Health Alumni Association established the Reverend John J. Flanagan, S.J. Lecture on Oct. 22, 1968 in honor of Father Flanagan's outstanding contributions to graduate education for hospital administrators. Fr. Flanagan, working closely with Saint Louis University, was instrumental in the initiation of a graduate degree program in hospital administration. He served as a founder and director of that degree program for twenty years, which is now the Master of Health Administration degree at Saint Louis University School of Public Health. The success of the Flanagan Lecture is largely due to financial sponsorships and organizational support from health services organizations in the St. Louis community. Since 1969 a long list of distinguished lectures have been given on issues of access to care, financing and quality and now ethical challenges of health care reform. As President/Chief Executive Officer of SSM Health Care, Bill Thompson is well qualified to carry on the tradition Fr. Flanagan began.
